I was an angry woman the other day.
A couple of weeks ago I had a blood test done, and the doctor emailed this week to say he had the results. (It takes that long now the District Health Board has given the contract to Australian company Labtests in order to save money and, according to my doctor, get everyone in
I made an appointment to see him the next day and spent the intervening hours unproductively fuming. It’s been 25 years since pizza, creamy pasta, or cream cake have passed my lips. I have never eaten a Big Mac or a hotdog (and to be honest I don’t feel shortchanged). I vaguely remember the delights of donuts and my mother’s apple pie with cream or custard. But I would no more think of eating them than I would of taking up sky-diving. I now stick to a strictly gluten free, dairy free diet as the specialists stipulate for the sake of my gut. Not even chocolate anymore. So I stomped into the doctor’s office and said “I’m angry and this is why”. And I proceeded to tell him everything I eat, from the hot water and lemon at breakfast to the banana and nuts that make up my measly snacks. “A teaspoon of peanut butter on a rice cake” I screeched (to be honest, in retrospect, I may have been losing it at that point and he was scooting backwards a bit on his chair). “That’s about as bad as it gets. Are you telling me I can’t even have a teaspoon of peanut butter on a rice cake once a day?”.
Thankfully (for his sake) he put up his hands and said it must be genetic and, no, I really couldn’t eat any less than I already was, and I had a very low fat diet and it was indeed VERY UNFAIR.
And the cholesterol wasn’t even THAT high anyway.
And then he suggested maybe I should leave the daughters with Bernard and have a break. I have NO idea why he said that …..!
But it’s back to business as usual next week – for one week only though unfortunately. After that Daughter-One is on study leave and then off school until the end of January/start of February next year.
Daughter-Two has been a sweetie of course all the holidays, never complaining of boredom and happy just doing her crafts and, in the breaks between rain, bouncing on the trampoline in her PJs.
And I am not angry anymore, because the sun has come out and we had a great day at the Diwali Festival and, yes, I even ate half a deep-fried spinach and chick pea flour snack which was no doubt chock full of cholesterol. So sue me.
The Festival was down at the harbour. We played which boat shall we pretend it ours. Actually, I am not a great fan of these huge ones. They all look like they should be called "Up Yours" instead of "Regal Flyer" or "Aurora" etc.
I like this one though:
I managed to get some new Worn Edges done for the store at Designer Digitals, as well as some templates.
Speaking of templates, don’t forget to check out the store this weekend for the templates by our latest designer ………. The fabulous Cathy Zielske.
I’d like to say I fell off my chair with surprise and delight when I heard she was joining us – but I sort of had an inkling when I realised she had been shopping the store. But I WAS definitely delighted with the brilliant news. It is going to be great to have her with us.
Here are the new products for this week:

Oh Lynn, I could just give you a big hug, you cracked my up laughing with your screeching comments at the doctors and your description of the boats! Did he put you on any medicine for your cholesterol?
I have to say that I adore your new products, I don't even know how many times I have used the edges already and I really want to delve into those templates next. Your pages are wonderful as always!

Catching up a bit with your blog here and you've got me laughing so hard as I visualize you getting upset at the doctor's office and then the doctor saying, "Why don't you leave the girls with Bernard while you take a break?"
Priceless, Lynn! You tell the greatest real life stories.

Lynn, I'm reading your blog for the first time tonight. My husband keeps asking me "what's so funny?" because I'm laughing hysterically the more I read. I am definitely going to have to come by and catch up more often. Wonderful reading!
