I normally use Persnickety Prints for my photobook printing, because of the great quality - but mainly because they offer the 10" x 10" size that I prefer for most of my albums.
But my monthly round-up album I print at 8" x 8" (or 8.5" x 8.5") and I was tempted to try out Artefact Uprising, having heard good things about them and admiring their branding and the clean design of their books.
Their 8.5" x 8.5" softcover photobook looked affordable AND they offer international postage at a reasonable price. In fact, so reasonable was it that I expected an email to say it was a mistake and I needed to pay them more - but instead there was a knock on the door a matter of days later and I had a Fedex parcel in my hands.
In fact, the whole process was quick, easy and streamlined. I loved how you upload photos (or digital scrapbook layouts) from your computer as you go, without having to first upload them to a separate "album" and go back and forth if you want to add more.
It is a bit too easy to accidentally hit the "auto-fill" button, which sits right next to the photo gallery with your layouts waiting to be added into the book. I was happily filling my book and thinking how easy the process was, when I accidentally did just that.
The 8.5" x 8.5" Artefact Uprising softcover photobook comes with a minimum of 40 pages. I was using it for my "2013 in review" album and didn't have that many layouts, but was happy to fill the extra pages with some favourite photos.
One thing that sets Artefact Uprising apart is their use of recycled paper.
This gives the album a gorgeous look and feel like an expensive eco-lifestyle magazine and you can easily see how they have captured the mood of the moment and are building on that to become a very popular printing option.
You will notice more "noise" in the layouts and photos as a result, however, and it's not the crisp effect you would get from glossy photo paper. But the overall feel of the book is a delight.
If the idea of quality recycled paper appeals then it is a good option for digital scrapbooking, especially if you are looking for 8" x 8" (or 8.5" x 8.5") photobook printing options. They also offer 11" x 8.25" and cute little 5" x 5" books. The softcovers have a minimum of 40 pages, but the 8x8 and 8.5 x 11 can go up to a whopping max of 200 pages. The hardcovers are available in different size options, with minimums of 50, 100 or 150 pages.
For my "year in review" album I used my "Lots of Shots No.05" template album
